The Power of Incremental Success with GoalKeepin

Find yourself having 101 excuses not to start on something or to get it done? Often it’s because the mountains seem too high to scale - which can be utterly discouraging 😔. Instead of sulking about your lack of progress, find out how you can overcome such slumps by harnessing the power of incremental success with Pentabase’s new life-tech mobile application GoalKeepin!

An IT company focusing on business consulting and marketing, Pentabase is here with their latest venture seeking to remind users that setting small, simple and casual goals is not only an effective means of building resilience and discipline, but also a stepping stone towards setting bigger goals in life.

What does GoalKeepin do?

The application provides users with a wide range of activities to commit to and rewards them upon successful completion. It features a user-friendly, minimalist interface, allowing users to keep their full focus on tasks at hand.

What makes GoalKeepin different from simply writing down goals in your planner? Well, the app takes commitment to the next level by getting you to “invest” in your goals. It’s a psychological tactic that motivates users to complete their set goals by getting them to earn back a self-decided participation fee (see screenshot below). No, you don’t have to pay to download this app. This participation fee, a voluntary sum between 10 and 300 SGD, is deposited in the app for the duration of the activity before it gets reimbursed to users as a reward for completing said activity. For those who are not looking for such serious investments, the “Free Challenges'' category in this app should do the trick 🤗.

How can a virtual application monitor your progress on real-life tasks? This is done by getting users to upload photos of themselves completing their goals for verification. Unless you are working on an activity that is all about your body, such as “doing yoga” or “stretching in the morning”, only a close-up of the activity is needed! E.g if you choose to “cook at home”, you would just have to “take a photo of food cooking on an induction/gas stove or in an airfryer/oven”.

If you are uncomfortable with having your photos made public, you could simply change your privacy settings to limit viewing rights to users whom you have added as friends.

Each activity calls for a 2- to 4- week commitment, with update requirements ranging from a weekly to daily frequency.

How can one use the app effectively?

1) Start somewhere within your comfort zone i.e. select an activity that comes naturally to you

GoalKeepin offers an extremely wide range of activities and goals, so you are sure to find something well within your comfort zone. With the help of the app, you can easily turn something you are already doing from time to time into a more regular habit.

Some goals available through the app include:

  • Summarise economic news articles, watch a Ted Talk (professional)

  • Learn basic coding, learn 5 words from a new language (educational)

  • Keep a household account, wake up at 7am every day (lifestyle)

  • Write a diary/blog, upload a video to YouTube (personal)

2) Get a support system

This can be done by getting friends to join you on Goalkeepin or by finding public posts from other app users on your feed. The posts would not only serve as a means of verification, but also help to build a community of goal-setters and goal-achievers! No better way to support each other than showing solidarity right☺️?

If you suspect a user to be faking evidence or not properly completing their set goal, you can flag out their post. This isn’t meant to be a function for spreading hate or unleashing your inner Karen, but rather one that encourages all users to exercise honesty and accountability. After all, the road to completing goals, even the small ones, is far from easy.

3) Build up momentum by being proactive about choosing your own goals

While GoalKeepin has a very broad range of categories to choose from, the app does allow users to suggest ideas for Pentabase’s team to consider. Instead of only focusing on activities that others have laid out for you, ease the process of working towards bigger goals by affirming your own individual strengths by setting your sights on niche activities or goals that suit your unique interests.
